Summary of the PTE

PTE stands for Pearson Test of English which is a computer-based English language test for those who want to study abroad or migrate to countries like Australia and New Zealand. Unlike IELTS and TOEFL, it is a scenario-based exam, accredited by the QCA, and administered in association with Edexcel - the world’s largest examining body. What is the Test Format?

After registering for the test you will be taking your exam in a secure Pearson test center. As you know it is a computer-based test so you will be reading and answering questions on it and will be given a headset for listening.

It is a scenario based test that mimics everyday life so you will hear excerpts from native, non native speakers, American and British accent. Because in everyday life you don’t always meet people with same accent.

The test is designed in such a way that every question generally tests 2 skills together, like reading and speaking or listening and reading.

The exam will include an unmarked voice recording of the candidate, which is part of the advanced biometric data that should assist institutions in verifying the identity of candidates and should aid them with their admission decisions.

Test scores are reported on the Global Scale of English, a standardized, numeric scale from 10 to 90 which can measure English language proficiency more precisely with reference to the widely known set of levels distinguished in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, or CEFR.

PTE Academic Eligibility Criteria

There is no specific criteria set by the Pearson PLC Group. But according to the PTE Academic eligibility criteria from 2020, students must be at least 16 years of age at the time of appearing for the test. Also, candidates who are below 18 years of age need to give a parental consent form for giving the PTE Academic test.
